An endless number of topics and binding areas for the promotion of volunteering is what the visit of the delegation of the International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) made up of Kathi Dennis (USA), Iraida Manzanilla Guerra (Venezuela) and Mónica Beatriz Galiano (Brazil). Hosting this visit were the Mexican Volunteer Alliance (AMEVOL), the Mexican Center for Philanthropy (Cemefi) and the Nuestros los Jóvenes Foundation. The objective of this visit was to learn about the situation of volunteering in Mexico from the different points of view of the different actors that promote voluntary action. In this way, 6 work tables were formed where IAVE could exchange what this organization that promotes volunteerism worldwide does. The first meeting was held at the Voluntariado Banamex facilities and had the objective of establishing a dialogue about different experiences of corporate volunteering. He highlighted the fact that there are different possibilities to carry out this type of service: local actions, initiatives linked to CSOs, support for programs led by public agencies and voluntary action days. The IAVE delegation exchanged points of view regarding the importance of promoting volunteering by global companies since many times there is no equal strategy for the different countries where the corporation has a business presence.
The IAVE delegation Phone Number List met at the second work table with religious organizations at the facilities of the Mexican Institute of Christian Social Doctrine and met with organizations that promote and encourage volunteering. He highlighted here the fact that this type of volunteering is extremely useful in providing services to large groups of excluded, vulnerable or even abandoned people. A characteristic feature of this religiously inspired volunteering is the fact that they are decisively serving Central American migrants who pass through the country on their way to the United States. The third meeting was held with civil society organizations that support their work with volunteers, link with companies or place volunteers in public tasks, etc. The group of participants expressed great enthusiasm for the possibility of promoting volunteerism more strongly and highlighted the need to strengthen links with other sectors such as companies and government; give greater visibility and recognition to volunteering. The value of CSOs having the Mexican Volunteer Alliance to provide the professionalization services that organizations require to strengthen their volunteering was highlighted.
The fourth meeting was held in the Foreign Ministry, in the Paula Alegría Room, where IAVE representatives met with public agencies that are linked to OSC. In front of public authorities, Amevol endorsed the need for the government to see voluntary social action as a great ally for community development and the provision of services. Susana Barnetche insisted that volunteers do a day of sitting down so that the contributions made in the very diverse activities and services of public interest could be appreciated. It is a priority that this government revalues the importance of the National Award for Voluntary and Solidarity Action and that it be delivered again by the President of the Republic at the official residence. It is also important to have a public policy that vindicates and dignifies voluntary activity. The possibility of giving greater dissemination to child volunteering and the activity carried out by public volunteers and training new ones in those agencies that do not yet have it was also discussed. The fifth meeting brought together Universities with IAVE was interesting since it was possible to see how many educational institutions have incorporated into their study plans the need to link future professional work with civil organizations. On the other hand, many universities have opened programs, specialties, diplomas and even educational offers in corporate social responsibility, where the philanthropic sector is also incorporated as a strategic ally. _________________ Phone Number List |
